The Art of Change
New ideas are great. But we can’t think our way into changing the world — we have to feel the change in order to be the change
I would love to help you, your group, or congregation create art dedicated to healing, peace, justice, and liberation through bold colors, shapes, and designs!
Rock with petroglyphs
All over the world — before colonialism, before capitalism — people connected with the earth, with the water, with the sun and moon, with the creatures of the land, air, and water.
These symbols are particular and universal at the same time.
Reach out to commission petroglyph paintings rooted in your culture, in your favorite color, and depicting the symbols that are most meaningful to you.
The art of healing
The first 48 hours after my mastectomy were not too hard. My chest was tightly bandaged, and I couldn’t really see or feel much of a difference in my body. But after 48 hours, I was supposed to unwrap and take a shower. I still remember how much I dreaded that moment as the 48 hour mark drew near.
After I recovered from my surgery, I started reflecting on that experience. I realized that part of my terror was because even though there are a lot of mastectomy survivors out there, I had seen very few images of one-breasted women. So I decided to make one. I had to take an introductory ceramics class and made several versions of this sculpture. All of them broke. But the process of making them helped me process my feelings about my new body shape.
If you are a breast cancer survivor and/or part of a survivors’ group, I would love to help you make sculptures to help heal your body and spirit.
If you or your congregation are already seasoned activists, you already know how to make a banner or where to go for an art build.
But if you’re one of thousands of people of faith and/or conscience who are responding to these times by wanting to step out more boldly, consider holding an art workshop on site at your regular gathering place.
